High-efficiency chlorine fastness improvement plan

What is chlorine fastness?

Colors that are sensitive to chlorine ions, such as reactive dyes red, green, blue, etc., are easily decomposed (degraded) by chlorine ions, resulting in color flower, fading, yellowing and other problems, that is, the chlorine fastness is not up to standard. Chlorine fastness is generally used in two scenarios, one is ordinary life scene, and the other is swimming pool and seaside bathing scene.

Ordinary life scene:

Tap water generally uses chlorine as a disinfectant. Therefore, when washing clothes or swimming, the dyes in the clothes will react with the small amount of effective chlorine remaining in the tap water to degrade the dyes, resulting in changes in the color of the clothes. Dyes that are easily degraded include direct dyes, cationic dyes and reactive dyes, especially reactive dyes, which are more easily degraded. Reactive dyes are widely used in the printing and dyeing industry, but the reactive dyes are not resistant to chlorine bleaching, so the bright color of the dyed fabrics cannot last long. Therefore, it is very necessary to use auxiliaries that can improve the fastness of reactive dyes to chlorine water bleaching to treat dyed fabrics.

Swimming pool scene:

Seawater contains a large amount of chloride ions, and swimming pools are disinfected with high-chlorine disinfectants. Therefore, textiles such as swimsuits, bath towels, and parasols used in this scenario are more susceptible to degradation by chlorine ions, which will accelerate the fading, yellowing, and aging of textiles. In particular, orders from coastal markets and island countries (such as Japan) are particularly concerned about chlorine fastness (halogen test).

How to improve chlorine fastness

Chlorine fastness, taking the most common Japanese order requirements as an example. The standard for chlorine resistance in the Japanese market for textiles and clothing is JIS L 0884 Test method for color fastness to chlorine-treated water. Because chlorinated bleach is used as a disinfectant in pipe water and swimming pools. The JIS L 0884 test method for color fastness to chlorinated bleach is to understand the color fastness of dyed fiber products and swimsuits with a high washing frequency to chlorinated bleach. The use of specific chlorine fastness enhancers can not only improve the washing fastness of dyed fabrics, but also make specific components or structures react with active chlorine before dyes, avoiding the destruction of dyes and dye-fiber covalent bonds, thereby significantly improving the chlorine fastness of reactive dye-dyed fabrics. Experimental purpose:

Comparative analysis of the effect of chlorine fastness enhancer Experimental fabrics:

Cotton bright red, brilliant blue, lake green, khaki fabrics Experimental products:

Chlorine fastness enhancer GRISEX G-3005 (domestic) and chlorine fastness color fixer 202 (imported) Experimental standard:

GB/T 7069 -1997 (ISO 105 E03, JIS L 0884) Experimental process:

0130g/L, one dip and one roll, liquid rate 60-70%, 170℃*100 seconds setting,

Chlorine resistant color fixing agent: Specially used to improve the color fastness to chlorine.

To combat the degradation of dyed fabrics caused by chlorine in tap water, swimming pools, and seawater, SYLIC has developed a specialized chlorine fastness fixing agent suitable for both reactive and acid dyes. This advanced formulation effectively protects the dye-fiber bond by creating a barrier or reacting with active chlorine, thereby preventing fading, yellowing, and blotching in dyed textiles.

SYLIC’s chlorine fastness fixing agent significantly enhances chlorine resistance in fabrics dyed with reactive colors (such as red, blue, green) and acid dyes (including brilliant blues, rose reds, etc.). It is especially ideal for swimwear, activewear, wool fabrics, and cotton textiles that require high chlorine durability for markets like Japan, Southeast Asia, and coastal regions.

With excellent chlorine resistance, soft hand feel, and stable shade performance, SYLIC chlorine fastness solutions help your dyed products remain vibrant and beautiful—even in harsh chlorinated environments.

Chlorine-resistant formaldehyde-free fixing agent

Sylic D2825

Epichlorohydrin dimethylamine copolymer

Amber transparent liquid

Cationic

60%

4~5

Used for dyeing fabric with reactive dyes for color fixing; Not only can improve the washing fastness of dyed fabric, but also when the chlorine-resistant color fixing agent is acted on the dyed fabric, it can be tightly and stably bonded to the fabric by covalent bond, so it can significantly improve the chlorine fastness of the fabric.

Chlorine acid resistant fixing agent

Sylic D2824

High molecular weight aromatic sulfonic acid condensate

Brown liquid

Anions

60%

3.0~4.0

Suitable for dyeing nylon, wool, silk and other fabrics with acid dyes and metal complex dyes to fix the color. It has good fastness effects on blended elastic fabrics of ultra-fine nylon and spandex. It has excellent stability to acid, has no effect on dyeing color and light fastness, and does not affect the feel of the fabric.
