Important Updates To OEKO-TEX® Standards! (Effective October 6)

Following the January and April updates, OEKO-TEX® has announced its third standards update for 2025, which will take effect on October 6, 2025.

As one of China’s largest dye manufacturers, Tiankun Chemical is here to provide you with the latest official updates.

oekotex standard 100

Limit Value Changes to Comply with EU Regulatory Updates

In line with the latest EU regulations, OEKO-TEX® has revised the limit values for PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonate) and its related substances across several certifications. Additionally, two new SVHC substances have been added.

Adjustment of Limits for PFOS and Related Substances

  • PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonic acid): 25 µg/kg
Applicable to: STANDARD 100, ORGANIC COTTON, ECO PASSPORT

  • PFOS-related substances: 1 mg/kg
Applicable to: STANDARD 100, ORGANIC COTTON

Addition of Two New SVHC Substances

The following substances have been added with a limit of 1000 mg/kg:

  • Decamethyltetrasiloxane (CAS: 141-62-8)

  • 1,1,1,3,5,5,5-Heptamethyl-3-[(trimethylsilyl)oxy]trisiloxane (CAS: 17928-28-8)

Applicable to: STANDARD 100, ORGANIC COTTON, ECO PASSPORT

Prohibition of Biologically Active Products

Starting April 2025, the use of bioactive products is strictly prohibited:

  • Initially banned in infant/toddler products and products in contact with mucous membranes (e.g., baby diapers, menstrual pants, tampons).

  • Now extended to all product classes under STANDARD 100, ORGANIC COTTON, and LEATHER STANDARD certifications.

What Are Bioactive Products?

Also known as biocides, these are chemical substances used to kill, inhibit, or repel harmful organisms (e.g., bacteria, viruses, fungi).

  • They act by disrupting essential biological processes, which may have negative health effects on humans.

PFAS Testing Upgrades & New Biodegradability Requirements

From January 2026, OEKO-TEX® will implement new testing and certification measures:

PFAS Testing

  • ECO PASSPORT will adopt a new PFAS testing method using alkaline hydrolysis.

  • This method, already applied in STANDARD 100 (since 2024), provides more reliable results.

Biodegradability Requirements

  • New criteria introduced for certain chemical products.

  • Verification options:

    • OECD/ISO test methods

    • Self-declaration (only acceptable without “biodegradable” claim on certificate)

  • If listed as biodegradable by ECHA, no further testing is required.
